Frequently Asked Questions

🤩 Who is eligible to participate in IvyHacks?

Any high school student, undergraduate student (Class of 2020-2025), or graduate student age 16+ can participate!

📅 When is registration?

Applications close September 27th, 11:59pm EDT!

⏳ When and where is IvyHacks?

IvyHacks will be completely virtual - but don't worry, we have a LOT of fun surprises and interactive and engaging activities planned! The event will run Oct. 1-4, 2020. Stay tuned for the schedule to be gradually revealed 👀

🥰 How do teams work?

We allow teams of up to four (teammates can be from any school). While teams can be specified on the application, you won't officially create your team until the event. You do not have to sign up with a team - we will also host a team formation social before hacking begins!

💻 I've never coded or been to a hackathon before - what about me?

IvyHacks is for everyone - it is the perfect opportunity for you to attend your first hackathon! There will be incredible talks, panels, and workshops where you can improve your skills, and mentors throughout the hackathon to help you personally. We will also offer prizes for attending workshops and the best beginner team hack.

🛠 What about hardware hacks?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to supply hardware for your projects. However, you are definitely allowed to use them if you really want to!

😎 Will there be swag and/or prizes?

Yes. YES. YES!!! No matter where you are (including outside of the US), we will be shipping swag and prizes for specific activities (beyond mere project submission).

⭐ Why should I come to IvyHacks?

IvyHacks was created by a team of experienced organizers from six universities/hackathons aiming to bring you the best possible virtual hackathon experience. With exciting social events, speakers, career fair, learning opportunities, swag, and prizes, we hope you join us in building bridges, breaking barriers, and redefining the future of tech collaboration and innovation!

📋 Why is there an application?

The application is short, we promise! We want to guarantee that students from a wide range of schools and experiences are given an equal and fair chance to participate. Furthermore, we hope that the process will encourage registrants to be committed to building something awesome.
